Country Roads

I've been traveling this stretch of road quite frequently lately.

It winds down through the Cheat River canyon and back up the next side.

 Switchbacks are tight and frequent.

And sometimes it is hard to tell which way one is actually supposed to go.

But it is a far more interesting journey and pleasant drive than any boring interstate.

Plus, there are so many opportunities to meet new friends around almost every corner!

Moonlight Photography

Moonlight on Sand Run Lake

The moon was about 3/4 full last night when I wandered down to the lake.  The image below is how the scene appeared to the naked eye.  (select to expand images)

By increasing the camera's exposure time a bit of magic occurred.  Stars, barely visible to the eye, emerged from the darkness.

Fiddling with the settings yielded this warm feeling image.

Turning away from the lake, and with the moon at my back, the following scenes unfolded.

I guess sometimes it just pays to take a little time, and look up.

April (Snow) Showers

Winter stopped by to pay a brief visit.

View out our dining room window.

Freshly mowed lawn. Can you tell?

"Rain" chain.

Tucker considering the situation.

Germany Valley and Seneca Rocks

Debbie and I took an Easter Sunday drive through Germany Valley. Located about an hour's drive from our home, it contains the South Branch of the Potomac and Seneca Rocks.

Seneca Rocks

North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac flows past Seneca Rocks

Look closely and you'll see a couple of climbers.

Here's one.

And here's the other.

Some people go to great extremes for an Easter egg hunt.

South Glade Crossing

Tucker and I meandered through a section of the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Trees are beginning to leaf out and grasses are starting to send up some new growth.

Beaver Pond...but no one came out to play.
